Dr. Enzley Mitchell IV begins his first year as the Director of Athletics at Harris-Stowe after serving as Director of Athletics and Head Men’s Basketball at Northern New Mexico College and in the same roles at Illinois Institute of Technology. He comes to Harris-Stowe with an extensive intercollegiate athletics background as a former student athlete as well as coaching and administrative experience at the NAIA, NCAA Division I, NCAA Division III, and Professional levels.


Mitchell started the intercollegiate athletics program at Northern New Mexico College and led the Eagles from membership in the USCAA to membership in the NAIA. In his second year, the men’s basketball team made a 10 win improvement from the inaugural season, which was the biggest improvement in NAIA Division II Men’s basketball. The team qualified for the USCAA national tournament and finished the season ranked 7th in the final poll in only their second season.


He coached four All-Americans, two of whom were also academic All-Americans. During the 2009-2010 season the men’s basketball team earned a GPA of 3.25 and the GPA for all student-athletes at Northern New Mexico was higher than the student body as a whole for two consecutive years.


The Fort Wayne, Indiana native is a graduate of Snider High School and graduated from Spring Arbor University where he played basketball and was a four-year letterman. At Spring Arbor, Mitchell scored nearly 1000 career points, grabbed over 600 rebounds and blocked 227 shots.  He also earned first team All Conference, First Team All Defensive, and Defensive player of the year honors before graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. In 1994 he helped lead his team to a 21-13 record. Following graduation Mitchell coached and played professional basketball in Europe including a season as head coach of the Swansea Basketball club in Swansea Wales, leading the team to a 19-4 record and semi-final appearance in the premier league championship.


Mitchell earned a masters degree in Recreation & Sport Management from Indiana State University and a PhD. in Sport Administration and Management from Concordia University.


In addition to several years of experience in intercollegiate athletics, Mitchell has an extensive background in sales and finance working for companies such as Chase, Key bank and Nelnet.
