SAINT LOUIS, MO- With a guaranteed spot in the AMC Tournament next week, (RV) Harris-Stowe looked for win 20 of the season. They just barely got it with their 49-47 win over Lyon College.

Prior to the start of the game, head coach Brion Dunlap and the rest of the team took time to recognize the 2017-2018 senior class. Altez Davis (SR/Danville, IL), Samuel Egedi (SR/Milton Keynes, England), Michael Gregg (SR/Columbia, SC), Dwane Miner (SR/Gates County, NC), and Jamal Hinton (SR/St. Louis, MO) were honored for their distinguished careers at Harris-Stowe State University.

Christian Wimbley (JR/St. Louis, MO) and Altez Davis led the Hornets with 9 points each. Dwane Miner was the game leading rebounder with 8.

Emir Sabic led the Scots with 14 points while Spencer Brown added in 11 points of his own.

Both teams struggled to score in the first half while both defenses pressured on forcing double-digit turnovers.

K'Ja Johnson (JR/Douglasville, GA) opened up play with a deep three-pointer to take a 3-0 lead.

The next basket wouldn't be until five minutes later when Justas Narusas drained a three for the Scots to tie the game at 3-3.

Johnson and Nate Rigmaiden (JR/St. Louis, MO) would end the scoring for the Hornets with back-to-back baskets to take a 23-16 going into the half.

Scoring efforts didn't pick up much in the second half. While both teams made more free-throws than they did field goals, the Hornets put the game on the line.

With 1:38 left in the half, Brown sank two free-throws to give the Scots a 47-43 lead.

Wimbley and Davis both added a free-throw each to get within two of Lyon. On the next possession, Rigmaiden would complete a three-point play to give the Hornets a 48-47 lead with 24 seconds left.

HSSU's defense came in clutch as they forced a Lyon turnover with 6 seconds on the clock to secure the 49-47 win.

Harris-Stowe ended the game shooting 38.3% from the field and 71.4% from the free-throw line. They forced 18 Lyon turnovers while their bench accounted for 21 of their 49 points.

With the win, HSSU ends the 2017-2018 regular season with an overall record of 20-10 and an AMC record of 16-6. They are the 3-seed in the American Midwest Conference Tournament and will host the 6-seed Owls of William Woods University. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 28.
