HANNIBAL, MO- The Hornets struggled to get back on track today against the Trojans of Hannibal-LaGrange University. HSSU couldn't get anything to fall offensively as they dropped their second straight game 59-52.
Jay'la Davis led Harris-Stowe with 11 points while Alantis Sutton (SR/St. Louis, MO) was right behind her with 10.
Kenna Greenway led the Trojans with 22 points while Martiza Chavez and Emma Anderson both chipped in 10 point a piece.
HLGU set the pace in the first quarter taking a 16-8 lead after Taylor King drained a three-pointer from the top of the key. The Trojans defense helped keep HSSU off the boards as they limited them to just 10 points in the opening 10 minutes and grabbed four offensive rebounds.
Things didn't change in the second quarter, Hannibal-LaGrange maintaining their lead over the Hornets over the entire time.
The Trojans extended their lead to double-digits after Kenna Greenway hit another three to take a 23-12 lead.
Harris-Stowe went on a run of their own to end the quarter and get within four of HLGU.
Jay'la Davis, Alantis Sutton, Dynesha Powell (SR/East St. Louis, IL), Unique Conner (JR/Dayton, OH), and Jordan May (FR/St. Louis, MO) all scored in the final four minutes of the half to cut Hannibal-LaGrange's lead to 28-24.
Harris-Stowe finally cut their deficit in the fourth quarter.
Kambri Davison (FR/Tulsa, OK) scored on back-to-back trips down the court to cut the Trojans lead to 50-49 with 2:34 left in regulation.
But, free-throws made the difference in the end as Hannibal-LaGrange knocked down seven to take the game 59-52.
With the loss, Harris-Stowe moves to 11-15 for the season and 9-11 in AMC play. They will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to Parkville, MO to take on the Pirates of Park University.
