Women's Soccer - Tue, Sep. 12, 2017

ST. LOUIS, MO- Harris-Stowe kicked off the 2017 American Midwest Conference season earlier today as they hosted the Scots of Lyon College. While the defense stopped all but one, the offense struggled to get anything to go their way in the 1-0 loss.

Lyon manged to control the tempo of the game from the start firing off 10 shots in the first half at HSSU goalkeeper, Camila Chaves (FR/Bogota, Columbia). Chaves managed to save 7 shots on 8 attempts. However, the defense of Lyon made it difficult for the Hornets to set up any offense, giving them just 2 shots in the first half.

With no score after the first 45 minutes, the Hornets came back and fired off 4 back-to-back shots at the Scots goalkeeper, Claire Coley. Victoria Sample (FR/St. Louis, Missouri ) was the closest the Hornets got to a goal in the 49'. Johanna Wallstab (FR/Munich, Germany ) took a corner kick and found Sample on the opposite post of the box who went for a header and sent the ball off the post.

The only goal of the game came in the 71' when Joyce Barbosa found Edith Flores streaking through the middle of the box to give Lyon a 1-0 lead, and eventually the game.

Johanna Wallstab lead the Hornets with 3 shots while Victoria Sample recorded 2. Gerogia Herrington, Lizette Popoca (FR/Waukegan, Illinois ), and Rachelle Gray (FR/Belleville, Illinois ) all tallied 1 a piece.

Harris-Stowe will continue conference play this Saturday when they host Lindenwood University-Belleville. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m.
