Men's Basketball - Thu, Mar. 2, 2017

Tonight the Harris-Stowe Men's Basketball continued their hot play with an 83-77 victory on the road at Central Baptist College.  The victory moves the Hornets into round two of the American Midwest Conference playoffs.  Harris-Stowe was able to overcome an early Mustangs lead behind the efforts of four senior members of the program.  The Hornets improve to 17-12 and the Mustangs will end their season 19-12.  The Hornets are now winners of 12 of their previous 13 games.  They will now travel to Park University Saturday afternoon for an opportunity to move on to the AMC Finals Tuesday March 7th.

The first half had the Mustangs coming out of the gate strong and lead the Hornets by as many as 8 points.  Senior Evans Ganapamo kept the Hornets in the game with 14 first half points.  Harris-Stowe took their first lead with 3:06 remaining in the first half when senior Malik Wineglass hit a free throw to put the Hornets up 35-34.  Senior Cameron Biedscheid hit a shot to put the Hornets up 6 with only 36 seconds remaining in the half.

The second half was mostly controlled by the Hornets despite a run by the Mustangs to give them a brief lead.  Senior Craig Davilla Jr. put the Hornets up 12 just a minute and forty nine seconds into the half.  Biedscheid was able to help extend the lead to 14 with a three point basket made 5:16 into the half.  The Mustangs then went on an 18-2 run to take the lead back over.  Again it was a Harris-Stowe senior who responded. Senior Jalen Fletcher tied the game 64-64 with a shot in the paint.  Davilla again gave the Hornets the lead 66-64.  The game would go back and forth with the score tied 73-73 when senior Trevor Roberts hit a three pointer with 3:29 seconds left in the game to give the Hornets the lead once and for all.  In the end the Hornets seniors combined for 71 points, 24 rebounds, 4 assists and the Hornets first playoff victory since March 4, 2014 vs Mid-Continent University.
