The Harris-Stowe Hornets Women's Basketball team defeated the Park University Pirates 78-49.  The victory improves the Hornets to 18-9 and 14-7 in the American Midwest Conference.  The 18 victories along with last season's 19 mark a two year record for the program.  The 2006-2007 and the 2007-2008 team won 36 games along with a 2007 AMC tournament championship.  The Harris-Stowe Women's Basketball program began in 1929 at Harris Teachers College. 

The first quarter was dominated by senior Brionna Taylor who scored 10 points in the quarter and had the Hornets up 18-10.  The second quarter had Dynesha Powell score five of her seven points and at halftime the Hornets led 38-18.  Coming out of the locker room Maronda Evans was able to hit a few shots to score 6 points in the quarter and the Hornets led 56-32.  The fourth quarter was much the same for the Taylor as she was able to score 9 points in the quarter to put the game away.  She would finish the night with 24 points, 10 rebounds, 4 steals and 4 blocked shots.


Game Notes:

  • Next game is Saturday at home in the Emerson Performance Center against Missouri Baptist.  Game time is set for 1pm.
  • Saturdays game will be Senior Day for both the Men and Women's teams
  • Hornets are second in the nation in field goal percentage on defense (32.7%)
