2016 was a year of growth for the Harris-Stowe State University Athletic Department. There were many stories from performances on the field, the classroom, sportsmanship, and dedication. The number 1 story of 2016 goes to Harris-Stowe's number one supporter Valerie Beeson. Her dedication to Harris-Stowe and the Hornets Athletics Department are unmatched.
Valerie Beeson Selected as Charles Morris NAIA National Administrator of the Year

Long time Hornet Valerie Beeson has been selected as the Charles Morris NAIA Administrator of the Year. She received the bid as the American Midwest Conference representative back in July and was recognized at the national level this past week. Beeson has served the university for 47 years in many different capacities. She has influenced hundreds of student athletes during their time at Harris-Stowe.
Ms. Beeson has been serving Harris-Stowe since the fall of 1969 when she was hired as an Mathematics Instructor. In 1976 she become the Director of Admissions and served in this role until 1988 when she became Director of Admissions and Academic Advisement. She began working with athletics in the fall of 1978 where she became Harris-Stowe State College's Faculty Athletic Representative. She held this position until 2001; additionally she served as the Chair of HSSC's Athletics Committee from 1980-1987 as well as the Secretary-Treasurer of the Show-Me Collegiate Conference. Beeson also served the NAIA at a national level by being a member for the Conduct and Ethics as well as Constitution and By-Laws. Beeson also serves on the National Eligibility Committee and serves as the AMC Eligibility Committee Chair. She is also a charter member of the NAIA Alumni Association. Valerie Beeson was selected into the NAIA Hall of Fame Meritorious Service Category in 2001. Beeson on being recognized "I am humbled to be recognized as the NAIA 2016 Charles Morris Award winner and am most appreciative that my colleagues took time from their already busy schedules to submit the documentation necessary for my name to have been considered. AMC administrators, athletics directors, coaches, Faculty Athletics Representatives, Registrars , compliance officers, and department support staff work diligently to be sure that NAIA/AMC rules and regulations are adhered to, questions are answered, requested information is submitted , deadlines are met, etc. - they help make my 'job' easy."
The Charles Morris Administrator of the Year award is an annual award in memory and honor of past Associate Executive Director Charles Morris and recognizes an administrator engaged in all phases of NAIA athletics programs who exemplifies the loyalty and enthusiasm Charles Morris had for the NAIA. Nominees must be active as an administrator at a member institution or in conference/A.I.I. committee organizations. The award is given for both conference and national levels.
