Men's Basketball - Sat, Dec. 3, 2016

Today the Harris-Stowe Hornets and the Lincoln University Blue Tigers will play round 2 of the Show Me State HBCU Basketball Classic.  Last Season the Hornet beat the Blue Tigers at home 91-83.  This season's matchup will be held at Robert F. Hyland Arena on the campus of Lindenwood University. Head Coach Brion Dunlap who will be coaching in his first Classic is ready for the event. "We are excited to continue the rivalry with Lincoln University and build off the great event from last year. It's not only great for the universities but it is also great for the communities to link such passionate fan bases in one gymnasium."

The Hornets enter the game 2-5 but have shown flashes with a win against #11 Campbellsville University.  The Hornets have been tough on the boards all season as they have outrebound their opponent in every contest.  The Blue Tigers are 5-2 on the season while averaging 84.4 points per game. 

 

Key Hornets:

Jalen Fletcher  / Junior / Forward

Fletcher leads the Hornets in scoring (20.4) and rebounds (7.0).  He is shooting 52% (58/112) from the floor and 60% (51/85) when he shoots from inside the 3 point line.

Tyrone Alston / Freshman / Guard

Alston is second on the team with 11.0 points per game.  The freshman has also dished out 24 assists for the second most on the team.

Michael Gregg  / Junior / Forward

Greg g is third on the team with 9.6 points per game.  He is one of two Hornets who have more assists than turnovers in the first 7 games.

 

Key Blue Tigers:

Jaylon Smith / Senior / Guard

Smith leads the Blue Tigers with 25.0 points per game.  He is 26/55 (47%) from behind the 3 point line. He also leads the team with 5 blocks.

Anthony Virdure / Senior / Guard

Virdure is second on the team with 19.9 points per game.  He leads the team with 27 assists.

Richie Lewis / Senior / Guard

Lewis is third on the team with 8.6 points per game.  He has 18 assists to only 12 turnovers.
