Women's Soccer - Fri, Nov. 4, 2016

Today the Harris-Stowe Women's Soccer team will play the opening round of the American Midwest Conference playoffs.  The Hornets enter the game 8-9-1 and they will take on the AMC regular season champion Park University.  Park is 11-3-1 on the season and 11-1 in the AMC.  The Hornets lost to the Pirates 7-3 in September.  The three goals the Hornets put in the net was the second highest amount the Pirates had given up all season.

Head Coach Scot Vorwold who is in his third season has led his team to back to back playoff appearances.  He believes his team will be ready for the task of taking on the number 1 seed. "It's great to be in the playoffs again this year. After making it last season the ladies got a taste of what it was like to make postseason play and knew they wanted to get back this year. The team fought very hard all season to earn a spot in the conference tournament. We are no stranger to Park as we played them the opening round last year. Last season they were the two and we were the seven seed. This year they are the conference winners at the one seed and we dropped a spot to the eighth. We are ready to work hard today in hopes of a different result then last year. I am really excited for the team as a whole. We have a large group of seniors who want to extend their collegiate career as long as possible and we have an equally large group of freshmen players who will get to experience the postseason atmosphere for the first time. All in all we are blessed to be here and we are going to enjoy the match and work hard to extend our chances this postseason."

The Hornets will have plenty of firepower behind leading scorer Megan Wilson.  She scored 14 goals during the regular season which was second in the AMC.  The Hornets scored 38 goals this fall which is one of the highest in the programs 22 year history.
