Men's Soccer - Sun, Oct. 9, 2016

The Harris-Stowe Men's Soccer team traveled to Conway, Arkansas to play American Midwest Conference Opponent Central Baptist College and walked away with a 3-0 win.  The win moves the Hornets into sole possession of the 8th and final spot of the AMC playoff race.  After starting the season 0-6 the Hornets now have won 3 of the last 4, all of which have come in conference play.  Scott Hartwig's Hornets are now 3-7 on the season but most importantly 3-3 in AMC play while holding tie breakers over Freed-Hardman and CBC who both trail HSSU.  The loss puts the Mustangs at 2-8 and 1-5 in AMC play.

HSSU scored the first goal of the game as senior Richard Kraka scored his first goal of the season at the 20 minute mark.  Sergio Pomajambo made the game 2-0 as he was able to score just before halftime.  In the second half Pomajambo put the game away with under 5 minutes left as he scored his second goal of the game to make it 3-0.  Goalkeeper Austin Golden kept the Mustangs off the board to record Harris-Stowe their first shutout victory since October 13, 2015 as they beat Missouri Baptist 2-0.

Hartwig on his team's performance, "Today was a big conference win. We used the confidence we gained against Freed-Hardeman and came out strong. After missing some chances early, Richard Kraka beat 6 players for a truly special individual goal. The guys responded well to going up 1-0 and we continued to push, being rewarded with a Sergio Pomajambo goal.

We knew at halftime if we kept the shut-out we would win the game. We defended hard with that mind and Sergio's second goal of the game was icing on the cake for the victory."
