The Harris-Stowe Hornets Volleyball team won its home opener at the Emerson Performance Center tonight against Morthland College.  The Hornets swept the Patriots in 3 sets winning 25-15, 25-14, 25-12.  The win moves the Hornets to 1-6 and drops Morthland to 0-4.

In set number one the Hornets and Patriots were in a back and forth battle until Camilla Davis took over both serving and playing tough defense.  Jhameka Lambert-Gully finished off the Patriots in the first set by converting 7 straight serves to win 25-15.

In set number two Shamekia McDowell was the star of the set by slamming several spikes on her way to collecting 6 points.  Miaya Peacock added several big kills during set number two to go along with a game and season high of 12 kills.

Set number three was tied 9-9 until the Hornets went on a 16-3 run to capture their first victory of 2016.  Coach T'Shon Young was proud of the way the team played tonight and stated, "the women did a great job setting the pace and tempo of the whole game."

  • Hornets win their first home opener since 2014
  • Hornets had 34 kills
